Hear the Roots’ Rousing NBA Finals Anthem
The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t sniffing the NBA Finals any time soon, but that doesn’t mean the Roots can’t party in the playoffs.
The legendary Philly crew have teamed with ESPN to create a rousing new anthem, “Show Me You’re a Champion,” for the push to the NBA Finals. And they took to a basketball court in Brooklyn to shoot a spot for the track, performing on the blacktop as iconic championship moments play out around them.
Like its title implies, “Show Me You’re a Champion” details the blood, sweat and tears required to climb to the top of the NBA mountain, and its video showcases the moments where all that sacrifice finally pays off, including Magic Johnson’s hook shot in the ’87 Finals, Michael Jordan’s jumper over Byron Russell, Larry Bird’s celebratory towel wave and Kobe and Shaq’s embrace following their first title. Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, Dwyane Wade and Paul Pierce also celebrate NBA championships in the spot.
Can Steph and the Warriors reign once again, or will the Thunder roll to the title? Is this finally the year LeBron brings Cleveland a championship, or will the upstart Raptors put that victory parade on hold yet again? We’ll find out when the 2016 NBA Finals tip off on Thursday, June 2 on ABC.
