See Rush’s ‘2112’ ‘Overture’ Come Alive in Video Comic Book
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Rush‘s prog-epic masterpiece 2112. To celebrate, the band is releasing a digital comic book telling the story of the LP’s titular rock opera. It begins with the “Overture,” which Rolling Stone is hosting exclusively. The entire 20-plus-minute suite, will then be available on Rush.com 21 hours and 12 minutes from the time of this post (Saturday at approximately 6 a.m. PST) and will be available for fans to watch for free until Monday at 6 a.m. PST.
“We were still quite young, 22 years old, when we [recorded] that,” guitarist Alex Lifeson recently told Rolling Stone in an interview about the album. “We were touring so much that we wrote it mostly in arena dressing rooms, and in the car and the van. It was done in pieces. The great thing was that we had a chance to rehearse it during soundchecks, so we were well prepared by the time we got into the studio.”
The video was previously available with the purchase of the deluxe edition of 2112, which came out in 2012. That release, which came out in three configurations, variously featured the album in 5.1 surround sound and three live tracks, as well as liner notes by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke.
