Questlove Details Culinary Creativity Book ‘Somethingtofoodabout’
Questlove may be well known for his night shift duties and his band the Roots, but fans who follow the prolific artist/author also know he’s passionate about the culinary arts (to such an extent he has a @questlovesfood Instagram account dedicated to it) and once owned fried chicken stand, Hybird. His third and forthcoming book, Somethingtofoodabout: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs, which will be released this spring, focuses on the culinary craft he admires.
“It’s a journey into the creative process of the craziest, most awe-inspiring chefs working today,” Questlove wrote about the book on Instagram. “It’s not a cookbook. You don’t have to be a foodie to get into it (I still shrug off foodie, I just love a good meal) all starts [with] the creative process. This goes deeper into it.”
According to a statement, in the book Questlove speaks with chefs in a number of cities, including New York, Austin, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Portland and New Orleans. In addition to exploring the chefs’ creative processes, he discusses their personal histories and gleans their insights into food innovations.
Somethingtofoodabout includes photography by Kyoko Hamada and a foreword by Anthony Bourdain. The book will be released on April 12th via Clarkson Potter. Pre-orders are available through Questlove’s official website.
Beyond the food-oriented tome, Questlove has been hosting a series of Food Salons with renowned chefs, which were birthed after Hybird shut down. “After the restaurant went down, it was sort of like, ‘What should our next move be?'” he told the New York Times. He also serves as a celebrity ambassador for Food Bank for New York City.
