Watch FIDLAR Throw a Party Gone Wrong in ‘Punks’ Video
L.A. band filmed video at Flaming Lips' art space The Womb
“Punks,” from FIDLAR’s Too album, is a steady howl of unconstrained rage. The band revs furiously in the background, while singer/guitarist Zac Carper sings: “Well I’m still alive/ And you are too/ I still can’t get myself outta’ you.”
The video takes place at a strange party where guests drink green liquid until they vomit money. At the end of the night, the bizarre event turns deadly: the main character is tied up and turned into a human piñata. FIDLAR filmed the video at the Flaming Lips‘ art space, The Womb, and several of the Lips’ longtime collaborators contributed to the visual.
FIDLAR bassist Brandon Schwartzel praised The Flaming Lips in a statement. “Getting to make a video at The Womb using all of The Flaming Lips’ resources was a dream come true,” he said. “We had their entire warehouse at our disposal and there were always a bunch of ‘freaks’ hanging around offering to help us make cool stuff.”
“There doesn’t seem to be that much to do in Oklahoma City,” he added, “so if you’re a weird art kid, you’re probably going to end up hanging out with The Flaming Lips. Something I really like about both of our bands is the preference for friends over professionals. Getting your friends together, giving them a job to do, and then watching them excel at it is super cool.”
Schwartzel directed the video along with Ryan Baxley, Zachary Ryan Cox, George Salisbury, Tom Hudson, and Travis Pierce.
