Watch Puff Daddy’s Guest-Heavy, Black-and-White ‘Auction’ Video
Puff Daddy reunites with director Hype Williams for his minimalist “Auction” video, rapping with Bad Boy alumni Lil’ Kim, Styles P and King Los. The swag-heavy clip – which finds the crew dressed in all-black against an all-white backdrop – recalls the high-energy vibe of Williams’ previous Puff-featured videos, including the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems.”
“Auction” finds the quartet alternating camera time, boasting about wealth and status over a brass-heavy jazz-funk groove. “Welcome to the auction,” King Los proclaims on the hook. “We selling flows, riches glow, solid gold / Big chains froze, flashy rings, all you need.”
The propulsive, self-produced cut is Puff Daddy‘s latest single from 2015’s MMM, which he issued as a free mixtape in November, then via iTunes the next month as a retail LP. The album also features guest appearances from Big Sean, Travis Scott, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, Future, Jadakiss and Pusha T, among others.
The rapper’s next – and reportedly final – studio release will be titled No Way Out 2, a sequel to his landmark 1997 debut. “It’s a crazy project,” Bad Boy signee Gizzle told Rap-Up in July. “I’m very honored to be part of it. Nobody can make an album like Puff Daddy … It’s one of a kind. The mindset is just to be classic and be epic and to really live up to that. We know it’s a tall order, but we welcome the challenge.”
