Watch Aziz Ansari as Bobby Jindal End Presidential Run on ‘Fallon’
Aziz Ansari donned a wig and a smile Thursday night to reprise his role as Louisiana governor, and now ex-Republican presidential candidate, Bobby Jindal on The Tonight Show.
The faux interview with Jimmy Fallon focused on Jindal’s recent announcement that he was ending his campaign for president. Remarking on his perceived unpopularity, the segment began with an animated Ansari, as Jindal, exclaiming, ” This is crazy! I’ve never been invited back to a TV show before!”
He went on to use a Star Wars analogy to explain that he wasn’t dropping out of the race entirely, only suspending his campaign — to 2020. “You remember when Jabba the Hut lowered Han Solo into that vat and he came out looking like he was stuck inside a giant metal candy bar, and then years later, they thawed him out and he was like, ‘Whoa, what did I miss?'” Ansari said, before unveiling his new campaign slogan, “Jindal 2020: Thaw It Out!”
Ansari also revealed that he’ll be hosting a new Fox News show that will find him “travel[ing] the country helping real Americans solve real problems.” However, the original name, Bobby Jindal’s Adventures Across America, had been shortened to BJ’s Across America.
After Fallon seemed taken aback, the governor replied, “Yeah, my family reacted the same exact way. They’re all like, ‘gross!'”
Ansari first premiered his Jindal character on The Tonight Show earlier this month. In that segment, the struggling candidate noted that he’d risen in the polls from 1 to 2 percent, a difference as significant in politics as it is in milk. Elsewhere, he spoke about scooping up constituents at rallies who accidentally thought they were attending “a meet and greet with the guy from Big Bang Theory.”
