Elton John to Live Stream Los Angeles Concert
Elton John will perform some of his greatest hits and tracks off his new LP Wonderful Crazy Night during a surprise free concert in Los Angeles on Saturday. The hour-long performance, which takes place outside the old Tower Records building on the Sunset Strip, will also be live-streamed at 12 p.m. PST on AOL.com.
The surprise concert comes just a day before John’s annual Oscars viewing party. “The City of West Hollywood has welcomed the Elton John AIDS Foundation and our annual Academy Awards Viewing Party with open arms for many years, providing us with the perfect environment to host a really fun and special evening,” John said in a statement. “We are profoundly grateful for their generous support, so I wanted to do something special just for them by giving our West Hollywood fans and supporters a surprise concert. Thank you, West Hollywood!”
According to AOL, the concert will feature “Crocodile Rock,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Rocket Man,” “Candle In The Wind” and “Your Song” among other John tracks. In an interview with Sharon Osbourne prior to the concert, John said that it was his husband David Furnish’s idea to put on the West Hollywood concert. “What a perfect place to do it, in the parking lot at Tower Records, so many wonderful memories. When music was so wonderful and so vibrant and so important,” John said of the venue choice.
The rocker recently took part in a brief unannounced performance in a London train station where he played a piano medley of his hits. He also sat down in the passenger seat of James Corden’s car for an installment of The Late Late Show‘s popular Carpool Karaoke.
“I’m still in the game, I love playing live more than I’ve ever done,” John recently told Rolling Stone of his concerts. “I have wonderful musicians – there’s nothing in my life to complain about… But, boy, do I ever find it.”
