Richard Linklater’s ‘Everybody Wants Some’ to Open SXSW
Richard Linklater‘s new film Everybody Wants Some, which has been billed as a “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused, will premiere March 11th, 2016 as the opening night film of the 23rd South by Southwest Film Conference, The New York Times reports.
Linklater wrote and directed Everybody Wants Some, which is set in the Eighties and follows a group of college baseball players. The film boasts an ensemble cast of young performers including Blake Jenner, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell, Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell and Will Brittain.
SXSW did not release any information regarding the availability of tickets to the premiere of Everybody Wants Some. The festival’s website, however, did note that attendees with Film, Interactive, Gold and Platinum badges will have access to the screening.
While Everybody Wants Some (previously known as That’s What I’m Talking About) has long been tied to Dazed and Confused, Linklater said in an interview with Creative Screenwriting last year, that it also overlapped with his last film, Boyhood.
“It’s a party film,” Linklater said. “It’s really about the beginning of school, not the end of the school year. I guess personally or autobiographically it’s kind of in that realm, but it’s also a continuation of Boyhood, believe it or not. I don’t know if one film can be a sequel to two different movies, but it begins right where Boyhood ends with a guy showing up at college and meeting his new roommates and a girl. It overlaps with the end of Boyhood.”
