Weezer Fanatic Drops $25,000 to Birdwatch With Rivers Cuomo
One diehard Weezer fan has spent $25,000 to experience an “Island in the Sun” in the most outlandish way possible: by taking a Greyhound bus to the Galapagos with singer Rivers Cuomo. The as-yet-unnamed big spender selected the “Experience Bundle” pre-order of Weezer‘s new self-titled LP, granting the buyer “a limited time” visit with Cuomo at the islands for bird watching and attempting to locate “the elusive white-cheeked pintail.”
“Whoa, got word that someone bought the $25k pre-order package on weezerwebstore.com late last night,” the band, seemingly in shock, wrote on Facebook. “Time to figure out how to get a Greyhound to the Galapagos.”
The jokey “Experience Bundle” description lists other Cuomo-assisted activities. “You’ll go on a catamaran ride to Charles Darwin Research Station,” reads the post. “Sing ‘The British are Coming” with Rivers in the Galapagos but replace every lyric about ‘old king george’ to ‘lonesome george. Enjoy your complimentary signed copy of the album and a pair of tickets to see the band on their summer tour with Panic! At The Disco. Finally, you will be named King of the World for a day.”
“You will be reached out to, by management, to get the sizing of your clothing and to work out the details of the trip!” reads a post-script, which notes that the buyer must “pay for Rivers on top of paying the band $25,000.” (Unfortunately, promo codes were not available.)
It remains unclear how this far-fetched Galapagos scenario will play out, but let’s hope the band films the end results. Weezer’s 10th LP, also known as “The White Album,” will be self-released April 1st.
