Watch Kevin Gates Talk Unorthodox Parenting Style, Love of Tattoos
On Friday, Kevin Gates released his major-label debut, Islah, a raw 15-song set that avoids guest stars entirely. The approach clearly paid off: The album debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200. The Baton Rouge rapper also takes a maverick approach to his private life. In the second part of an exclusive video conversation with Gates at the Rolling Stone office, he sounds off on his unorthodox approach to parenting, including his decision not to vaccinate his children.
“I don’t believe in conspiracy theories,” Gates told RS. “I’m just a cold-blooded investigator.” Gates claims that due to his choice, his son and daughter are growing up in an unusually advanced fashion. “They different,” he asserts. “They sit down like little people and just talk.”
Gates stresses that his stance on vaccination doesn’t stem from a fear of needles, citing his copious tattoos as evidence.
He goes on to reveal that his children were born at home, rather than in hospitals. “A lot of children that was born in a hospital experienced a lot of difficulty that they didn’t have to experience,” he says.
Stay tuned for more from Rolling Stone‘s interview with Gates. The MC is currently touring the U.S. in support of Islah.
