Dierks Bentley Says New Album ‘Black’ Is a ‘Relationship-Based Record’
Dierks Bentley didn’t have to look far to find inspiration for his upcoming album Black — he just had to look at the other side of the bed.
“This one kind of digs back into relationships and Black is my wife’s maiden name,” he tells Rolling Stone Country, “so it’s kind of a layer to the album.”
“It’s hard to sum it up in words,” notes Bentley, who recently released the album’s first single, “Somewhere on a Beach.” “It’s kind of a relationship-based record. My last record had a lot of personal stuff with ‘Riser’ and ‘I Hold On.'”
Black is still about dealing with issues of the heart and Bentley promises an incredibly candid listen.
“Most the songs deal with just the ups, downs, curves and swerves of the relationship that I’m in and the life that I live and what I do for a living,” he says. “There’s a lot to mine in a long-term relationship and I’m digging into that for this record.”
The album is set for release in early 2016, which will coincide with Bentley joining Luke Bryan to co-host the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 3rd. Bentley will also launch his headlining Somewhere on a Beach Tour with guests Randy Houser and Cam in the coming months.
