Hear Pusha T’s Notorious B.I.G. Riff ‘Untouchable’
Pusha T debuted a quivering new Timbaland-produced tune, “Untouchable,” via the G.O.O.D. Music website in a way that required fans to hold their mouse down on an image of three doves flying if they wanted to hear the song in full. Now, the song is available in a more user-friendly fashion via YouTube.
The former Clipse rapper, who brags about being named president of the label in the song, explained on Genius that when he heard the beat Timbaland sent him, he immediately latched on to the Notorious B.I.G.’s “untouchable” theme, which came from his turn on Pudgee’s 1995 single “Think Big.” In between lines about selling coke, Pusha also explained that he used his verses to blast Donald Trump, proclaim his independence from guesting on others’ songs and boast about how his partnership with a shoe company has earned him a million dollars.
Earlier this year, the rapper told Rolling Stone how much Biggie meant to him. “I believe the Notorious B.I.G. was the greatest rapper who’s ever lived,” he said. “He was a master painter with words. And his flow was just so effortless. I think I’m an awesome writer, but my bars still sound like bars. Big had all these intricacies, all these colors, all these witty things – and it didn’t sound like a rap. It was a conversation.”
The track will appear on Pusha T‘s upcoming album King Push. The record will follow up his 2013 LP My Name Is My Name, which reached Number Four on the Billboard 200. Last year, he put out the single “Lunch Money,” which Kanye West produced.
Also, despite his self-proclaimed aversion to making guest appearances in “Untouchable,” he’s been busy in the last year, appearing on Major Lazer’s “Night Riders,” Puff Daddy’s MMM mixtape and videos for Hudson Mohawke’s “Warriors” and Yogi’s “Burial.”
