Wiz Khalifa Brings Misty ‘See You Again’ to ‘SNL’
Saturday Night Live featured a pair of chart-toppers on its Mayweather/Pacquiao-conflicting episode: host Scarlett Johansson’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently busting box office records while musical guest Wiz Khalifa is firmly entrenched atop iTunes’ Top Songs with his Furious 7 cut “See You Again.” The rapper performed that smash single along with Blacc Hollywood‘s “We Dem Boyz” during his fight night visit to SNL.
For “See You Again,” Khalifa was joined by singer Charlie Puth, who features on the studio version of the track. In Furious 7, the song serves as a tribute to actor Paul Walker, who died in a car accident prior to the release of the film. Stripped of its poignant imagery, Khalifa’s performance of “See You Again” still showcased why the track has been so impactful with audiences long after Furious 7‘s end credits rolled. Even as Avengers: Age of Ultron ends Furious 7‘s box office reign, Khalifa and “See You Again” have helped the film’s soundtrack stick around at Number Two on the Billboard 200.
After the SNL performances, Khalifa tweeted, “There’s nothing wrong with me wanting to sleep in the pants I performed in tonight.” In addition to his two songs, Khalifa also popped up in a pair of SNL skits. In the cold open, SNL announcer Darrell Hammond joked that some cast members ditched the show mid-sketch to watch the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight live in Khalifa’s dressing room. Then, the rapper made a brief but hilarious cameo in the best sketch of the night, “Blazer.”
Only two more episodes remain in Saturday Night Live‘s 40th season. Next week, Reese Witherspoon will host alongside musical guest Florence and the Machine. The season wraps up May 16th with Louis C.K. and Rihanna.
