See David Redfern’s Greatest Photos of 1960s Rock Royalty
David Redfern was born in Derbyshire, England, and began his career photographing jazz musicians. At first a fan of big band and swing, he ended up shooting artists like Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, taking skillful action shots that led Dexter Gordon to dub him the genre's Henri Cartier-Bresson. In the Sixties, Redfern's portfolio grew to include images of bluesmen and rock stars, and by decade's end, Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Ike and Tina Turner had all passed before his lens. Redfern lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on October 23rd, and we're celebrating his legacy with a gallery of his most memorable photographs.
