Beanie Sigel in Critical Condition After Shooting
Beanie Sigel is in critical condition after the rapper was shot in the stomach outside his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey on December 5th. Sigel remains sedated following surgery at an Atlantic City, New Jersey hospital and has been unable to speak with investigators due to the severity of his injuries, NBC 10 Philadelphia reports. No arrests have been made in the shooting.
According to reports, Sigel was returning home from dropping his children off at school when an “unknown assailant” started firing. Although Sigel’s attorney said that the rapper was not the intended target, investigators believe that an argument outside of Sigel’s home prompted the shooting. Police later executed a search warrant of Sigel’s house but did not elaborate what they were looking for. Police have interviewed several suspects, including one man who jumped from a car after fleeing the scene, NBC 10 Philadelphia writes.
Sigel was released from prison this past August after serving a two-year sentence for tax evasion. Sigel had been living in a halfway house at the time of the shooting, which came just one day before the former Jay Z protégé’s federal probation was expiring.
Legal troubles have marred Sigel’s once-promising career as the Roc-A-Fella rapper’s federal tax evasion sentence was being served concurrently with a drug possession charge. Before that, Sigel was convicted of a federal weapons charge and served a year behind bars. The rapper was also accused – and acquitted – of attempted murder in 2005; the following year, he was shot multiple times during a robbery attempt.
