The Funniest Five Minutes on the Web
The fourth season of Wainy Days kicks off with David Wain on a date with Amanda Peet. “[I heard] you have a very small penis,” she says. “Relax, tiny and soft is what gets me going.” They proceed to have one of the more bizarre sex scenes ever filmed.
Wain has become a cult-hero kingpin of nebbish comedy ever since he made the 2001 geek favorite Wet Hot American Summer and played “the Jew” on MTV’s Nineties sketch-comedy classic The State. Last fall he had his first mainstream smash as a director, Role Models, but he goes back to his roots for his online hit, Wainy Days, which has drawn 10 million views.
“I LIKE THIS CORNER OF MY WORLD WHERE I HAVE 100 PERCENT VETO POWER.” —DAVID WAIN
Filmed in Brooklyn and Los Angeles on a shoestring budget, Wainy Days features Wain as a pathetic version of himself as he meets one disastrous girl after another. Friends Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill have made appearances. Role Models was a surprise hit for Wain — “It’s the first and only thing I’ve ever been involved with that was commercially successful” — but he has no plans to shut down Wainy Days.
“It’s a great lab for writing, acting and directing,” he says. “I really like this corner of my world where I have 100 percent veto power. It’s like you have this little sketch book of poems that’s completely yours.”
