Beyonce is ‘Crazy in Love’ on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Remix
When Beyoncé made her solo debut in 2003, “Crazy in Love” was the perfect pop fanfare to introduce the future queen. More than a decade later, the track has been chopped up for a haunting remix for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.
The remix, crafted by Beyoncé collaborator Boots, is a far cry from the original. Centered around a queasy piano part and plodding percussion, Beyoncé’s vocals are slightly warped and laced with effects that add a sinister touch. While the remix certainly fits Fifty Shades‘ literally “crazy in love” vibe, Bey sounds as triumphant as ever, especially as the track crescendos amidst a flourish of strings.
Boots’ remix of “Crazy in Love” initially popped up in a teaser for the first Fifty Shades of Grey trailer, which Beyoncé fittingly debuted on her Instagram. A somewhat longer version of the song soundtracked the film’s first trailer, which arrived soon after.
The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack will see release on February 10th, but is available to pre-order now on iTunes. It will also feature Michael Diamond’s remix of Beyoncé’s “Haunted” (off her 2013 self-titled effort) and Ellie Goulding’s Max Martin-produced power ballad “Love Me Like You Do.” The soundtrack also includes music from Skylar Grey, Sia, the Weeknd, Jessie Ware and more.
Fifty Shades of Grey opens in movie theaters on February 13th.
