David Schwimmer Cast as Robert Kardashian in O.J. Simpson Miniseries
David Schwimmer has been cast as lawyer Robert Kardashian in the upcoming anthology series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Or in television terms, Ross from Friends will play Kim Kardashian’s father in the true crime offshoot of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
Cuba Gooding Jr. will portray Simpson in the 10-episode miniseries, while American Horror Story vet Sarah Paulson – she plays both conjoined twins on the current season “Freak Show” – will fill the role of lead prosecutor Marcia Clark. Production on the FX series will begin early next year in Los Angeles.
The series will examine the famous murder trial from the perspective of both the prosecution and the defense, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how Simpson was ultimately found not guilty of the crime. It’s unclear whether American Crime Story will adhere closely to its source material – author Jeffrey Toobin’s The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson – or if ACS will adopt AHS‘ anything-can-happen approach, which sometimes means characters singing David Bowie and Lana Del Rey tracks out of nowhere.
Kardashian was a key member of Simpson’s “Dream Team” of lawyers: A longtime friend of the football star, it was Kardashian who read Simpson’s desperate statement to the press before the infamous White Bronco chase. The actors who will round out the rest of Simpson’s all-star legal team – Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey, Alan Dershowitz and especially Johnnie Cochran – have not yet been revealed, nor have casting decisions been announced on other notable Simpson trial characters like Mark Furhman, Kato Kaelin and Judge Lance Ito.
