Smashing Pumpkins Enlist Rage Against the Machine, Killers Members for Tour
Billy Corgan will be joined by Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk and Killers bassist Mark Stoermer when the Smashing Pumpkins embark on a handful of live dates in support of their new album, Monuments to an Elegy, out December 9th.
“We’re absolutely thrilled and humbled to have Brad and Mark helping us out with these shows,” Corgan said in a statement. “[A]nd if our rehearsals are any indication, they should be one-of-a-kind.”
The quick trek kicks off at the Kesselhaus in Berlin on November 30th and also includes stops in London on December 5th, Paris on the 6th and then New York on the 8th. Shows in the band’s hometown of Chicago, plus San Francisco and other select cities will be announced soon. Tickets for the New York City gig at Webster Hall will be available on Ticketweb tomorrow, November 19th, starting at 12 p.m. EST.
The Smashing Pumpkins will also play a special outdoor show on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 10th, and follow that up with a stripped-down set at Los Angeles radio station KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas concert on Sunday December 14th. No word on whether Wilk and Stoermer will join the band for those shows or the group’s headlining sets next March at Lollapalooza dates in Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The Pumpkins have dropped three tracks ahead of the release of Monuments to an Elegy, including the dramatic, “Tiberius,” which arrived on Monday in the wake of the guitar-heavy “One and All” and the electrifying slow burner, “Being Beige.” Corgan recorded the album with the help of guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and ended up enlisting Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee to play drums on the entire LP.
Monuments to an Elegy follows the Pumpkins’ 2012 effort, Oceania and marks the latest installment in their overarching mega-album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, which began with the 2010 EPs, Songs for a Sailor, Volumes 1 and 2, and will end next year with the band’s current record in progress, Day for Night.
