Hear Benjamin Booker Let Loose on ‘Chippewa’ at Third Man Records
Last September, after a summer of touring, rising guitarist Benjamin Booker played a small, last-minute show at Nashville’s Third Man Records. Next week, the label, which was founded in 2001 by Jack White, will be releasing the set as a 10-song live album.
“This record is the result of a year on the road,” Booker tells Rolling Stone. “It’s the best nights of my life and nights I would give anything to take back. It’s sleeping in parking lots and sleeping with people for beds. It’s eating bad food with good folks. It’s makeups and breakups. It’s missing home and never wanting to go back. “
Booker released his self-titled debut on August 14th, but many of its tracks appear here in different form. “We learned from each other,” the 25-year-old continues. “We grew tighter as a band. The songs changed, and on the night of September 24th we stepped into that building in Nashville to capture that.”
Below, listen to the Live at Third Man Records take of “Chippewa.” Compared to the album version, the rhythm section is a little more present and the guitar solo is a bit rougher. The full album will go on sale next Tuesday, the 27th, and can be pre-ordered here. After its release, Booker will spend a month and a half touring Europe, Australia and Asia. He returns to North America with a March 26th Minneapolis gig, and from there he’ll play a handful of shows across cities including Chicago, Toronto and New York.
