Watch Brad Paisley’s Hilarious ‘Daily Show’ Performance for ‘Democalypse 2014’
The Daily Show With Jon Stewart is filming in Austin, Texas this week — “a city so liberal, a guitar could marry a cowboy boot,” as declared in the introduction to the show’s special election coverage, called “Democalypse 2014: South by South Mess.” (The left-leaning variety show also deems Austin “the one part of Texas where we won’t get shot.”)
Gearing up for November 4th’s midterm elections, Stewart and company are tackling such hot-button issues as a possible Republican takeover of the Senate, immigration reform, Ebola quarantines … and Texas’ right to secede from the union. Special correspondent Jason Jones somehow talked Brad Paisley into getting in on the paradoxical action. The two collaborated on “The State of Texas,” an irreverently funny song accompanied by the laugh-out-loud video above, which mocks everything from the Lone Star state’s penchant for sweat-inducing chili to its pistol-packing public.
“Here in Texas, ‘pro choice’ means you get to choose which guns you carry,” Paisley sings.
While he may wax poetic on politics through his music, the country star has, for the most part, stayed mum on his personal political views. But he’s always had comedic courage to poke fun at social issues (i.e., his Westboro Baptist selfie) and even — as seen on the CMA Awards every year — his country music peers. Paisley and Carrie Underwood will co-host the live awards broadcast for the seventh year in a row, with both also set to perform. Tune in November 5th at 8 p.m. ET on ABC to see which celebrity friends will be the butt of their jokes.
