Aerosmith Tour to Resume Following Drummer’s Heart Procedure
Aerosmith will resume their Let Rock Rule tour on Saturday at the Gorge in George, Washington. They had previously canceled the tour’s appearance at Concord, California’s Concord Pavilion this past Wednesday so drummer Joey Kramer could undergo a minor medical procedure. At the time, rumors circulated that he was having heart complications, which his wife confirmed on Twitter.
“I’m feeling better than ever and I’ll be back sitting in the best seat in the house, hitting it harder than ever for our amazing fans,” Kramer said in a statement. “My gratitude and thanks for all the love and support showered on me during this time.” The drummer also tweeted, “Feelin’ good, feelin’ groovy, feelin’ great!!! Nothin’ keeps the Kramedog down.”
Health concerns have been an issue for the group in recent years. Bassist Tom Hamilton missed a great deal of Aerosmith‘s 2006 tour as he recovered from throat and tongue cancer. Three years later, frontman Steven Tyler fell off stage, leaving him with 20 stitches and a broken shoulder. That same year, guitarist Brad Whitford sat out a few tour dates as he recovered from a serious head injury. And in 2013, Hamilton left an Australian tour due to an unspecified illness.
After this tour, Aerosmith’s future is a big question mark. In May, guitarist Joe Perry told Rolling Stone that since the group had fulfilled its recording contract, it was trying to “figure out what that means” for the band. “I don’t even know if making new albums makes sense anymore,” he said. “Maybe we’ll just release an EP every six months. I don’t know what the future looks like.”
