See Carrie Underwood’s Stunning World AIDS Day Performance With U2’s the Edge
Carrie Underwood took part in U2’s surprise World AIDS Day (RED) performance in New York’s Times Square Monday night. The singer was personally invited by the iconic group’s lead singer, Bono, to take part in the event and was joined on stage by U2 guitarist the Edge during a performance of the heart-tugging song “Change,” from her 2010 Play On album. Underwood also performed her current single, “Something in the Water.” (Skip ahead to the 18:22 mark in the above video for her performance.)
Billing themselves “U2 Minus 1,” the band’s Adam Clayton, the Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. were joined by rap superstar Kanye West and rock greats Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, both of whom stood in for Bono, as the singer continues to recover from a serious bike accident in Central Park.
Former president Bill Clinton also spoke to the massive crowd at the event, which was organized to thank America for the role it has played in the global fight against AIDS. The beginning of the end of AIDS epidemic is now in sight, as 13 million people have access to life-saving treatment compared to 300,000 a decade ago.
