Peter Bjorn and John Share Dreamy Cover of Paul McCartney’s ‘Put It There’
Swedish indie pop trio Peter Bjorn and John have offered up their cover of Paul McCartney‘s “Put It There,” a bonus track from the upcoming tribute compilation, The Art of McCartney.
An ode to fatherly advice and friendship off McCartney’s 1989 album, Flowers in the Dirt, Peter Bjorn and John stay true to the acoustic heart of “Put It There,” but lace their version with shuffling production that builds to a dreamy, ambient end of interweaving electric guitar lines. The track is exclusively available through Amazon.
While Peter Bjorn and John’s cover of “Put It There” will appear as a bonus cut, The Art of McCartney‘s track list is packed with offerings from artists like Bob Dylan (“Things We Said Today”), Billy Joel (“Maybe I’m Amazed,” “Live and Let Die”), Corinne Bailey Rae (“Bluebird”), Kiss (“Venus and Mars”/”Rock Show”), Chrissie Hynde (“Let it Be”) and The Cure, who teamed up with McCartney’s son James for a rendition of “Hello Goodbye.”
The Art of McCartney was the brainchild of producer Ralph Sall, who began working on the tribute record in 2003. The set includes songs McCartney wrote with the Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist, and the musician was even kind enough to lend Sall his backing band when it came time to record. The Art of McCartney officially sees release on November 18th, but it’s currently streaming in its entirety.
In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Willie Nelson spoke about participating in the project, noting that this wasn’t the first time he’d covered the classic Beatles tune, “Yesterday”: “I recorded it when it first hit the market,” Nelson said. “I had a band in Fort Worth, and I told the audience, ‘Here’s a pretty good song I heard by a little country group called the Beatles.’ I just think McCartney is one of the best songwriters around.”
