Hudson Mohawke Announces First Solo LP in Six Years, ‘Lantern’
For the first time in six years, Scottish producer and DJ Hudson Mohawke is preparing to release a full-length album. Lantern will be released on June 16th and will feature guest spots from Miguel, Jhené Aiko and Antony Hegarty.
Along with an official track listing and festival dates, Mohawke has also shared a short, creepy teaser video featuring a man dressed like Ronald McDonald running down a snowy, dark street while covering his ears. The teaser trailer’s soundtrack may be a small taste of the potentially ominous sound of Lantern, but new music will not be released from the producer until later this month. “This album is everything I’ve been working towards,” Mohawke said in a statement. “I wanted to make a classic — at least for me and my friends. I never wanted to be any genre. I want to be my own. Everything.”
Since his 2009 LP Butter, Mohawke has kept himself busy with various collaborative projects across the worlds of electronic and hip-hop, producing tracks for Kanye West, Azealia Banks and Drake. HudMo has worked most often with West, having produced much of the G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer alongside Yeezus‘s “Blood on the Leaves” and “I Am a God” (the latter co-produced with Daft Punk). For two years, he was part of the duo TNGHT with Canadian DJ Lunice and recently released the trap-heavy Chimes EP last year.
