Watch FKA Twigs Give Birth to Dance Troupe in ‘Glass & Patron’ Video
FKA Twigs used her YouTube Music Awards win to premiere her video for new track “Glass & Patron” as well as make a big announcement: The Mercury Prize-nominated singer will follow up last year’s breakout album LP1, one of Rolling Stone‘s 50 Best Albums of 2014, with a new EP penciled in for later this year. “Glass & Patron,” which previously appeared in FKA Twigs’ Google Glass ad, is the first track off that upcoming EP.
The first minute of “Glass & Patron,” directed by Twigs herself, shows the singer giving birth alone in a van in the middle of the woods. Out of the amniotic sac emerges a troupe of dancers who eventually engage in “the most epic vogue battle of all time,” the singer wrote in a statement. Twigs’ previous music videos showcased the singer’s dancing background, and the five-minute “Glass & Patron” serves as an eye-popping vehicle for Twigs’ impressive moves.
Twigs enlisted producer-songwriter Boots to co-write and co-produce “Glass & Patron.” Before she drops her new EP, Twigs will hit the road this spring and summer for 14 gigs, including stops at the Coachella Festival and the Red Bull Music Academy Festival, where she’ll stage the U.S. debut of her Congregata performance.
YouTube premiered numerous videos on Monday to celebrate the YouTube Music Awards, including Action Bronson’s Coming to America spoof “Baby Blue,” Ed Sheeran’s Ray Liotta-starring “Bloodstream” and Charli XCX’s nightmarish clip for “Famous,” directed by Tim & Eric’s Eric Wareheim.
