Death From Above 1979 Stream New Album ‘The Physical World’
Death from Above 1979 are now streaming The Physical World, their first album in 10 years, over on iTunes a week before its September 9th release.
To further celebrate the album’s release, as Pitchfork notes, Toronto residents will get the chance to visit “The Physical World: Pop Up Shop & Tattoo Parlour,” where patrons will be able to purchase “special limited edition items unavailable anywhere else,” and even get some fresh ink done if they show up early enough. The shop opens at 10 a.m. on September 3rd and 4th at 952 Queen Street West.
Death from Above 1979 are also set to perform “Trainwreck 1979” on The Late Show with David Letterman on September 10th, a few days after a special gig at the Rough Trade store in Brooklyn on September 8th.
Produced by Dave Sardy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis), The Physical World is DFA1979’s second album and first since 2004’s breakout blast of bass-driven garage rock, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine. The duo of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler split in 2006, but reunited in 2011 and have played a number of live shows since, workshopping new material on stage. Grainger told NME in a recent interview that the band was itching to release The Physical World partly because fans and journalists have been pestering them about album two since You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine.
“No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death from Above,” Grainger said. “It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.'”
Death From Above 1979 have also scheduled an extensive fall tour in support of The Physical World, starting with a hometown gig at Toronto’s Riot Fest on September 6th. A full list of the band’s tour dates is available on their website, where The Physical World is also still available for pre-order.
