Carly Rae Jepsen Enlists Tom Hanks, Justin Bieber for New Video
“Call Me Maybe” is a tough single to top in terms of catchiness and visual accompaniment, but Carly Rae Jepsen topped it with new single “I Really Like You” and an adorable video featuring Tom Hanks lip-syncing the bubbly new single and a cameo from Jepsen’s friend Justin Bieber.
In the cute clip, Hanks goes from morning until night singing the song while walking through the streets of New York City to meet up with Jepsen and a crew of dancers in the street. Along the way, there’s a cute text message convo between the pair, several ladies swiping right on Hanks’ Tinder profile and a quick gag when the singer and actor finally meet up with Hanks, still lip-syncing, telling Jepsen he’s pregnant after the bridge’s final line “I need to tell you something.” Bieber shows up in the end for a moment to dance with the pair.
Jepsen and Hanks met at the wedding of Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun last year, and Braun is responsible for reuniting the pair in the upbeat clip for the bubbly single. “Scooter was telling the story [of the video] to Tom over dinner, and Tom apparently said ‘Why not me? Why didn’t you ask me?” Jepsen told Access Hollywood. “I got a call three days before Christmas from Scoots being like ‘Do you think Tom Hanks would do?'”
Bieber has long been a major supporter and friend to Jepsen, having been the extra boost needed to help her single “Call Me Maybe” go from hit to ‘Song of the Summer‘ in 2012. That same year, Jepsen opened for the “Boyfriend” singer on his Believe tour.
“I Really Like You” is the first single off Jepsen’s third album, which does not have a title or release date yet. On her Instagram, she has been teasing studio sessions with a diverse roster of artists including Tegan and Sara, Jack Antonoff, Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechtshaid. It’s unclear, though, if those artists will appear on her upcoming album.
