Go Behind the Scenes of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ Cheerleader Sequence
Taylor Swift extension-preps and basket-tosses her way through a new clip that offers a behind the scenes look at the cheerleading segment of the video for her latest chart-topper, “Shake it Off.”
Along with backstage footage and an inside peek at the making of the big sequence, Swift talks about the massive amounts of cardio she did at the behest of director Mark Romanek to prepare for the long, intense three-day shoot, as well as what “Shake It Off” means to her and her fans.
“A lot of people who, I think, will relate to this song are people who are dealing with not ever really feeling cool with themselves because other people make them feel like they don’t fit in,” Swift said. “One thing I learned in this whole process is you can get everything you want in your life without ever feeling like you fit in. Selling millions of records doesn’t make me feel cool – it makes me feel proud and I have a lot of people on my side and I’ve worked really hard. But I don’t think it’s the most important thing in life to fit in. I think it’s the most important thing in life to dance to the beat of your own drum and to look like you’re having more fun than the people who look cool, like they fit in.”
Another set of outtakes from the “Shake It Off” video are on their way as well, while the song itself will appear on Swift’s upcoming album, 1989, out October 27th. Swift performed the track live for the first time over the weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she turned the stage into a giant dance floor complete with tuxedoed backup dancers and a cheekily averted dive into the audience before bringing the song to it’s big finish.
