Nick Offerman Exalts Whisky in New Song
There are few things in this world Nick Offerman can’t do. The Parks and Recreation star is so good at living, he wrote a book on the subject. But alas, as the actor/carpenter laments in a new song, he’s unable to drink whiskey while strumming his six-string, and doctors say giving him a third arm is too risky.
“My Tales of Whisky” is Offerman’s ode to his favorite libation, but as the song and its video (which arrives via the beverage company Diageo) show, there are necessary limits to his love. Of course there’s no drinking allowed while working in the woodshop — “So I put down jig and imbibe in a swig,” he croons — and just as it’s a terrible idea to drink and drive, no one should ever drink and ride a horse. As Offerman gallantly rides his noble steed, Flowers, he sings that spilling scotch on your crotch is a surefire recipe for disaster.
Along with these charming and true life lessons, the video features amazing footage of Offerman strumming his guitar in various majestic settings, including a boat in a calm lake, a windswept field by the shore and a cellar filled with barrels of soon-to-be-drunk whiskey. “Sonny, don’t hesitate, raise a glass with your mate,” he concludes. “Or if you’re lucky, a glass with your lass.”
While Offerman’s star-making turn as the inimitable Ron Swanson will come to an end when Parks and Recreation wraps up after its seventh season next year, the actor certainly won’t be going anywhere. He recently directed the star-studded video for Tweedy’s “Low Key,” and over the summer offered Washington wonks a basic lesson on the U.S. Constitution when he closed out the Radio and Television Correspondents Association dinner.
