Watch Kendrick Lamar Get a Woody Harrelson Piggyback in ‘SNL’ Promo
If a cheap make-out session hangs in the balance, Kendrick Lamar isn’t afraid to tell a woman he’s actually Matthew McConaughey. In a hilarious promo for the November 15th episode of Saturday Night Live – which will be hosted by Woody Harrelson, with Lamar as musical guest – cast member Kate McKinnon admits she’s fallen for the rapper’s impersonation trick. “I’m sorry I deceived you,” Lamar deadpans, after Harrelson reveals the scam. In the second bit, a winded Harrelson crashes the stage after giving McKinnon a 22-block piggy-back ride; Lamar then requests a lift to 55th street onboard the True Detective star.
Back in September, Lamar released a funky new single, the Isley Brothers-sampling “i.” It’s the first taste of the rapper’s upcoming third LP, a follow-up to 2012’s Grammy-nominated good kid, m.A.A.d. city. No release date has been announced, but Lamar told Rolling Stone in September that fans should expect plenty of “aggression and emotion” from the heavily anticipated album.
“There’s one particular [as-yet-untitled] track I’m really excited about,” he said. “It’s one where I just went in the booth and spilled out what I want to say at that moment. I just freestyled, because I really just wanted to grab the raw emotion of it.”
Earlier this year, Lamar also made a memorable cameo appearance on Flying Lotus’ “Never Catch Me,” a single from the producer’s jazz-fusion-heavy LP, You’re Dead. As FlyLo revealed to Pitchfork, the duo also collaborated on another track for the album, but his verse was left off due to “political reasons.” As Stereogum notes, Lamar’s missing bars have been included during performances of “Eyes Above” on Flying Lotus’ fall tour. Fan videos have been making the rounds for the past month, but check out a decent-quality fan-shot sample below.
