‘Orange Is the New Black’ Scores at Creative Arts Emmys
Orange is the New Black took home three prizes at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, with Uzo Aduba winning her first big acting trophy in an emotional moment with Morgan Freeman.
As THR reports, Aduba won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series award for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the Netflix prison series. “I don’t know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in, day out,” she said as Morgan Freeman presented her with the golden statuette.
OITNB casting director Jennifer Euston won the award for Outstanding Casting in a Comedy Series, and the show scored another win for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series. The series is up for several more Emmys, including Oustanding Comedy Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress and Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (for Taylor Schilling and Kate Mulgrew, respectively).
While the Creative Arts Emmys, held a week before the main awards show, mostly focus on technical and behind-the-scenes work, the ceremony did include a handful of other acting honors. Jimmy Fallon won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his hosting turn on Saturday Night Live, while Scandal‘s Joe Morton won the equivalent award for a drama series. Allison Janney won her fifth Emmy, taking home the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series prize for her role as Margaret Scully on Showtime’s Masters of Sex.
Harry Shearer‘s prolific work on The Simpsons scored him the award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance, while Jeremy Irons‘ contributions to the National Geographic Nature program Game of Lions won for Outstanding Narrator. Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns was honored as the Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program for its installment with President Barack Obama.
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be broadcast on NBC on August 25th at 8 p.m. EST.
