Miranda Lambert Makes New Fan in Priscilla Presley
Miranda Lambert has fans in high places.
Earlier this week, the chart-topping country singer received a rare thumbs-up from Elvis Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, whose high-profile marriage to the King served as inspiration for the Platinum song “Priscilla.” The former Mrs. Presley voiced her approval on Instagram, where she uploaded a family picture of her and her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, listening to the track in presumably one of the ladies’ kitchens. “Love it!” Priscilla wrote, adding, “Best of luck with your new album.”

Released last week, Platinum has certainly enjoyed a lucky run. “Automatic,” the record’s gold-selling single, is the most popular song on country radio, while the album itself is the biggest release in the nation, sitting atop the Billboard 200 with 180,000 copies sold. On an album filled with wry admissions about what it’s like to be female, famous and married, “Priscilla” — written by Nicolle Galyon, Natalie Hemby and Jimmy Robbins — is a breezy standout, driven forward by a breakneck pace, an acoustic guitar and the frustration that comes with being hitched to a man who’s “married to attention.” For Priscilla, that man was Elvis. For Miranda, it’s country hit-maker Blake Shelton.
“I would never compare Blake and I to Priscilla and Elvis,” she told Rolling Stone Country earlier this summer. But I think the way they wrote this song, you have to address it. The tabloids, and all the stuff that is thrown in our faces and thrown our way, as both successful artists on our own, and then you put us together, and we’re a married couple, so that has a lot of pull on us. I feel like it’s got to be talked about, because [the rumors] are there, it’s floating around, and people know.
“It’s just part of the business,” she added. “It’s a new thing, but it’s part of our life now. And this song is a really fun way to deal with it.”
Miranda Lambert will take Platinum on the road next month, when her summertime tour kicks off July 10th in Fort Loramie, Ohio.
