Watch Parents Trick Kids Out of Halloween Candy for Jimmy Kimmel
Every sugar high has its crash, and for the fourth year in a row Jimmy Kimmel has challenged parents to temporarily ruin their kids’ Halloween by telling them they ate all their candy. Never has adding another brick to the wall of distrust that eventually separates parent from child been so hilarious.
According to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! YouTube page, the show received an unprecedented number of submissions, and the results are rife with high-pitched screaming, righteous anger — “Eat an apple!” one girl fires back at her mom — and the whirring of tiny minds trying to rationalize the irrational actions of the people that are supposed to love and care for them the most. But for all the cute plate-throwing and swearing, there are the truly heartbreaking kids who handle the news by pretending everything’s all right: “It’s fine, it’s OK,” says one boy before hugging his mother, a telltale sign of Stockholm Syndrome.
All this trauma is, however, for a good cause, with Kimmel encouraging parents to send some (not all!) of their kids’ extra candy to U.S. military members through Operation Gratitude. Parents have until November 15th to send their candy, and can find more information on the organization’s website.
