Watch the Mysterious Trailer for ‘Divergent: Insurgent’
Shailene Woodley returns as Tris Prior — but with a badass pixie haircut — in the next installment of the Divergent series, Insurgent. The trailer for the sequel opens with Tris standing in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Chicago. The scene is vacant and reminiscent of the fear landscapes we saw in the first movie. Tris turns to see her mother standing in the doorway of the remains of a building. The building lights on fire and her mother becomes trapped, so Tris returns to her self-sacrificial ways and leaps to save her.
“The world will never be the same,” the trailer reads between scenes of Tris jumping through the air and bursts of flame to save her mother. It doesn’t give us much, but at least we know the sequel will be action-packed.
The series, based on author Veronica Roth’s popular trilogy, follows Beatrice Prior as she navigates the strange dystopian society in which she lives. The society is divided into four factions that cultivate certain personality traits: Dauntless for the brave, Abnegation for the selfless, Candor for the truthful, and Erudite for the intellectual. A mandatory test that’s supposed to tell Beatrice where she belongs shows that she is Divergent, which means she has an affinity for more than one faction. She can resist certain mind-controlling serums and her actions are unpredictable.
Divergent: Insurgent picks up with the factions at war, with Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) bent on finding all the Divergent and concocting serums that can control them like the rest. The movie hits theaters March 20th.
