Eric Church to Join Kenny Chesney’s Big Revival Tour in Five Cities
Kenny Chesney was a big fan of Eric Church‘s songwriting before tapping him to open his 2013 No Shoes Nation Tour, but watching his tourmate’s show night after night brought his respect for the “Talladega” singer to a whole new level.
“Doing it as long as we have, you can definitely tell who is making a dent in the American psyche,” Chesney told Rolling Stone‘s Patrick Doyle earlier this year. “We knew really quickly that there’s a lot of people out there that didn’t just hear Eric’s music on the radio — they were emotionally and mentally invested in what he was doing…. And they can tell how invested he is. One thing I’ve learned touring over the last 20 years is that if you don’t care, they’re not going to care. Eric really cares about his craft, about the songwriting part of it, as an artist and as an entertainer. And it’s not all about a phase or what’s cool right now, or what sounds good on the radio right now. Eric is bigger than that.”
Chesney parked his tour bus for all of 2014, but the electricity of Church’s set was still top-of-mind when planning his recently announced 2015 Big Revival Tour. Thus, the two will share the stage for five of the trek’s big stadium shows. (See the list of cities and dates below.)
“Some of the most fun I’ve ever had on tour was last summer with Kenny,” Church shares in a press statement. “He’s an artist that isn’t afraid to let you come full blast and do what you do. It’s rare you get to tour with someone you respect and you are friends with. I can’t wait to do it again.”
Chesney’s tour kicks off March 26th — his 47th birthday — and will hit more than 55 cities. He’ll also team with Jason Aldean for 10 shows, beginning May 2nd in San Francisco. Even with his year-long break from the road, Chesney remains the only country artist in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years list.
Church is currently on his own Outsiders World tour, which he just extended through February. Hard-rock outfit Halestorm will open all shows on the new leg, with Dwight Yoakam also joining for select dates.
