Axl Rose Makes Bizarre Cameo in Beer Commercial for World Cup
Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has gotten in on World Cup fever by making a cameo – offstage – in a beer ad titled “The Greatest Show on Earth.” The twist is that it’s the soccer players who are the rock stars.
In the clip, which also features a cameo by MMA fighter Anderson Silva, a soccer stadium turns into a concert with the tag line, “In the World Cup, boys, you are the rock stars.” Famous footballers the Hulk from Brazil, Gary Cahill from England, Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon and Yoshida from Southampton, England proceed to pick up instruments and form a rap-rock band to play “Paradise City” with revamped, soccer-specific lyrics. “Take me down to the Paradise City, where the grass is green and the ball is queen,” the rapper says. But it’s OK that they changed the lyrics, because during the second go-around, Rose raises a beer to the band.
But lest anyone think Rose is resting on his laurels, the singer recently revealed that Guns N’ Roses have two full-length releases in the bag and are just figuring out when to release them. “We recorded a lot of things before Chinese was out,” Rose said in an interview with Revolver. “We’ve worked more on some of those things and we’ve written a few new things. But basically, we have what I call the second half of Chinese. That’s already recorded. And then we have a remix album made of the songs from Chinese. That’s been done for a while, too.”
Before those come out, though, Guns N’ Roses are releasing a 3-D concert film of their Las Vegas residency, Appetite for Democracy 3D. The movie will be screened in select theaters across the nation on June 18th and 19th and will come out on Blu-ray and DVD on July 1st.
