The ‘Friends’ Women Reunite on ‘Kimmel’ for Awkward Fan-Fiction Scene
Jimmy Kimmel got the chance to live out his Nineties fantasy on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a recent episode, where he performed a scene of his own Friends fan fiction with Rachel Green herself, Jennifer Aniston – though she absolutely was not going to wear the Rachel wig.
Set in an exact replica of Monica’s kitchen, Kimmel – playing Ross at a time when that character and Rachel were not “on a break” – kicks things off by asking a reluctant Aniston, “How about we make love right now?” With a button-activated laugh track situated nicely on the table, the two continue their awkward chat, though soon they’re joined by both Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, who reprise their roles as Monica Geller and Phoebe Buffay for the sole reason of lauding Ross/Kimmel for his love-making prowess.
When Kudrow questions why Phoebe was given the character Joey Tribbiani’s favorite pick-up line, “How you doin’?” Kimmel explains the cruel fate that met the rest of the male Friends: “They’re dead,” he said. “Marcel the monkey bit them and gave them monkey rabies and they died.” It all goes a little south for Kimmel from there.
The semi-reunion comes as Friends prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall. To mark the occasion, Warner Bros. and Eight O’Clock Coffee are offering fans the chance to gather at a pop-up coffee shop modeled after the gang’s old hangout, Central Perk. As Entertainment Weekly reports, the pop-up shop will feature the actual orange couch the Friends friends sat on, a number of other props and select appearances from James Michael Tyler, who played the barista Gunther. And course, the stereo will be playing “Smelly Cat” and other Phoebe classics.
“Central Perk” will be up and running from September 17th through October 18th at 199 Lafayette Street in Downtown Manhattan. The shops will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
