Blake Shelton Reportedly Scores Role in Adam Sandler’s ‘Ridiculous 6’ Movie
From “Farm Hunk” to “Farm Hunk Gilmore”? Fresh off his stint hosting Saturday Night Live, Blake Shelton has reportedly been cast in an upcoming Adam Sandler movie.
According to the Wrap, the country singer will make his film debut in Ridiculous 6, a spoof of Westerns such as The Magnificent Seven. Sources tell the entertainment site that Shelton will play Wyatt Earp, a real-life lawman from the Old West who has been portrayed in a handful of books and movies — including 2012’s Wyatt Earp’s Revenge, coincidentally starring the singer’s longtime friend (and sometime duet partner), Trace Adkins.
A look at the rest of the Ridiculous 6 cast is comedy in itself. Vanilla Ice joins Shelton as another musician-turned-actor in the flick, playing a second true historical figure, Mark Twain. The musicians are among a diverse group of screen stars including Steve Buscemi, Whitney Cummings, Terry Crews, Taylor Lautner, Nick Nolte and Luke Wilson. Sandler’s fellow SNL alums rumored to appear in the film are Dan Aykroyd, Chris Parnell, Will Forte, Jon Lovitz and Rob Schneider.
The Wrap‘s summary of the plot claims Sandler will play an orphan raised by a Native American tribe. Crews, Lautner, Schneider and Wilson are cast as his half-brothers, with the role of the sixth sibling yet to be filled. Hollywood legend Nolte will play their biological father.
Set to begin production in February, Ridiculous 6 will be the first in a series of films Sandler is making exclusively for Netflix. The comedian inked a deal with the streaming video company last fall, to produce and star in four original movies.
