Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Back in ‘Terminator Genisys’ Trailer
Just like he promised, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back. The muscle-man returns to the Terminator franchise with a big ol’ shotgun and plenty of robotic charisma, as he and Sarah Connor set out to save the world once again in the explosive first trailer for Terminator Genisys.
Genisys is the first of three new Terminator films, and the opening moments of the trailer feature the same set-up as James Cameron’s original entry. It’s the year 2029, and John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to the Eighties to save Sarah Connor (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke) from the Terminator programmed to kill her. Except this time around, as Connor explains to Reese, “We already killed him.” The “We,” of course, refers to Schwarzenegger, who pops up and proceeds to do battle with his 1984 self.
Amidst some truly epic action sequences — including a motorcycle jumping on top of a train, a school bus falling off the Golden Gate Bridge, and Schwarzenegger skydiving into a helicopter — Connor explains the stakes succinctly: “We can stop Judgement Day from happening” (even though, as everyone knows, that remains the series’ best film to date).
Terminator: Genisys was directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) and is slated to open July 2015. The movie follows 2009’s Terminator Salvation, which was the first film in the franchise to not feature Schwarzenegger, who was, at the time, serving as California’s Governator.
