Pharrell Slips Into Crooner Mode for ‘Spider-Man 2’ Track ‘Here’
Though he’s known more for his jazz-tinged pop and hip-hop productions, Pharrell knows how to deliver a ballad when the mood is right. And the musical chameleon slips into crooner mode with “Here,” his original tune written for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. The ballad finds Mr. “Happy” in reflective mode, singing about dramatic “unfinished business” over silky strings and acoustic guitars. The track is available to stream below (via Rap Radar).

Pharrell also worked on the Spider-Man 2 score, collaborating with composer legend Hans Zimmer and guitarist Johnny Marr. In addition, he produced the Alicia Keys–Kendrick Lamar collaborative track “It’s On Again” (and even appeared in its music video, fiddling with a synthesizer-driven supercomputer as Keys belted against a backdrop of the New York City skyline). The Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack will be released by Columbia Records on April 22nd, with the film hitting theaters on May 2nd.
Back in March, Pharrell opened up to Rolling Stone about working with Zimmer, whom he considers a “mentor” and “big brother.”
“Before, I was basically getting my jollies from aesthetic, shallow pleasures because it was all surface,” he said. “When I understood the importance of purpose and the gravitas in intention, that’s when my music started to become as close to magic as it could be. When you dig into his scores, they’re magical.”
