Flagrant 2: A Salute to ‘Seinfeld’ and a Single Tear
Neymar’s World Cup-ending injury. Joey Chestnut’s eighth-straight victory at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Novak Djokovic’s epic, five-set battle with Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final. Major League Baseball’s All-Star rosters.
A whole lot happened while you were watching fireworks and clogging your arteries. Of course, only one thing truly mattered: The Brooklyn Cyclones’ “Salute to Seinfeld” night.
Milos, Mets, Magic Loogies: The 25 Greatest ‘Seinfeld’ Sports Moments
Yada, Yada, Yada.
The New York Mets’ minor-league affiliate pulled out all the stops in honor of Seinfeld‘s 25th anniversary on Saturday: Players took batting practice in puffy shirts, a guy named George Costanza (who drove down from Rhode Island) did radio commentary, the foul poles were re-named Festivus poles (and the stadium dubbed Vandelay Industries Park) and the Soup Nazi threw out the first pitch.
There were contests involving marble rye and Junior Mints, a low-talking play-by-play announcer and, of course Keith Hernandez “Magic Loogie” bobbleheads. The game itself was a stinker – the Cyclones lost 18-2 to the Aberdeen IronBirds – but few of the 8,241 in attendance seemed to mind. Especially since there was an Elaine Benes Dancing Competition.
Well done, Cyclones. It was real, and it was spectacular.

We know, dude. Mondays are the worst.
