Jake Owen Encourages Urine Consumption on ‘Kimmel’
With the southwest and especially California in a severe drought, Jimmy Kimmel enlisted “Beachin'” singer Jake Owen to spread the word about water conservation — by advocating that we drink our urine.
In an opening monologue skit on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late-night talk show host welcomed Owen to perform an environmentally minded PSA (with an emphasis on the “pee”). With just an acoustic guitar, the Florida native, who did triple TV duty on Tuesday evening, also appearing on Chelsea Lately and the taped ABC special CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, sang his “new” song “Drink Our Pee,” while Kimmel played the straight man.
“Ninety-five percent of our urine is pure H20,” Owen explained to a bemused Kimmel, adding that the other five percent is “absolutely delicious with a splash of cranberry and a lime.”
Despite Kimmel’s dismissal of the idea as disgusting, Owen sang away: “We’re all in this together/it’s not time to be afraid/life dried up our lemons/but we can still make lemonade.” At song’s end, Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo appeared with two glasses of yellow liquid — which the host sampled, but his guest did not.
Later, Owen debuted his real new single, “What We Ain’t Got.” A ballad about pining for things outside our grasp, the song showcases Owen’s voice, with just a plaintive piano backing him up.
