Andrew Garfield Gets Groped, Craves Chicken Wing in Cut ‘SNL’ Sketch
One of Saturday Night Live‘s best sketches of the season didn’t even make it to air. The surreal, borderline disturbing”Wing” stars this past weekend’s host, Andrew Garfield, as Matt, an undershirt-wearing teen heartthrob who rejects the sexual advances of Dylan (cast member Beck Bennett) in pursuit of his friend’s teriyaki chicken wing. You know, the usual sketch stuff.

The whole ordeal takes place inside a suburban kitchen, where three friends (Matt, Dylan and an unnamed, deadpan dude played by Kyle Mooney) must decide the ultimate fate of Dylan’s final wing – leading to a series of bizarre interactions somewhere between a 90210 love triangle and a Mr. Show bit, with plenty of canned audience cheers and corny bumper music.
Dylan wants Matt’s affection as much as Matt wants that wing, and the ensuing stand-off is hilarious. “If you really want that wing, why don’t you just take your jacket off?” Dylan asks, luring his friend into a trap of saucy goodness. “You don’t want to get sauce on it, do you? . . . Maybe we should roll your sleeves up to so you really enjoy that wing.” Later on, Dylan squeezes Matt’s leg and bicep, leading to a super-dramatic shot of Matt gazing off in ruminative-hunk style. Elsewhere, Dylan taunts his would-be lover by asking if he’d rather eat carrots, and the third friend takes a stand against the odd display: “What are you doing? You’re not the same. I want my old friend back. I’m leaving.”
The true highlight of this demented sketch is the random commercial bumpers, which include shots of lions and volleyball games. But be sure to stick around for the closing credits – among the listed actors are “Mike Tiger as Matt Tigers” and “Tommy Baseball as Sonya.”
It was a strong episode of SNL all-around for Garfield: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star displayed his eclectic comedic talents with plenty of Spidey bits, a solid Justin Timberlake impersonation and a sketch involving his criminal dislike for Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love.”
