As If? Katy Perry Courts Idea of Starring in ‘Clueless’ Musical
Katy Perry isn’t above poking fun at her own pop diva persona to get a laugh – a fact she’s demonstrated in various goofy music videos. And that talent could come in handy with another creative venue: The singer has expressed interest in playing lead valley girl Cher in a Broadway musical adaptation of the Nineties film comedy Clueless, Vulture reports.

“Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death,” Clueless writer-director Amy Heckerling told the publication, though she acknowledged that Perry’s intense schedule could create a conflict. “Maybe Iggy [Azalea] would do it!”
That casting would make sense: Azalea recently showcased her Clueless cred in the music video for her Number One smash, “Fancy,” which features a Beverly Hills locale and clear references to the catchphrase-spawning 1995 film.
“It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie,” Heckerling said of the clip, which she was shown by numerous acquaintances. “But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don’t know how they did that.” The filmmaker said she’s currently in the “really, really early” stages of creating the musical adaptation, though she’s already finished writing book and lyrics.
In other Perry-related news, the singer partnered with Capitol Records to launch a new record label, Metamorphosis Music, last month. Her first signing, Jordanian singer-songwriter Ferras, recently released an EP, executive produced by Perry, on Metamorphosis and is serving as opener on Perry’s ongoing North American tour, which runs until October.
