Second Person Dies After Electric Daisy Carnival
A second attendee of this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival was found dead at the Vdara Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday night after the annual EDM festival, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
The death of 25-year-old Anthony Anaya follows the passing of 24-year-old Montgomery Tsang, who was pronounced dead shortly after collapsing in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway early Saturday morning.
The Clark County Coroner said medical examiners are currently waiting on the results of blood toxicology tests to determine the cause of death in both cases. Police have said they believe both deaths were the result of some kind of medical condition.
Following the news of Tsang’s death, EDC organizers Insomniac Productions issued a statement expressing their condolences and saying the festival would continue through Monday: “We are deeply saddened by this news, and hope that everyone will join us in keeping his family and friends in their thoughts during this very difficult time. Dance music fans pride themselves in being part of a loving community and, as we get ready to start the second night of the show, we ask everyone to help us keep this event safe. One death is one too many, and we all must do our part to keep each other safe, healthy and happy, tonight and every night.”
Las Vegas police reported 250 medical calls during the first night of this year’s EDC, and while most were minor issues, five resulted in hospitalization. Police also reported 29 drug-related felony arrests.
This year’s two EDC deaths are yet another blemish on the dance festival circuit: In 2010, a 15-year-old girl died of a drug overdose at EDC Los Angeles, and in 2012, two people died in drug-related incidents at the Las Vegas festival. Last year, the Electric Zoo festival in New York City was cut short after two fans died of drug overdoses.
