Sturgill Simpson Extends Fall Tour
Sturgill Simpson continues to tour worldwide and has added several dates to the trek that will continue into the fall. The singer-songwriter, who has a sold-out headlining gig at the fabled Troubadour in L.A., also has numerous club dates throughout the Southeast, Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Midwest. In addition to his own shows, he’ll open for Zac Brown Band, Jason Isbell and Drive-By Truckers on select dates. (Check out his lengthy list of tour dates here.)
Simpson and his band — bassist Kevin Black, guitarist Laur Joamets and drummer Miles Miller (pictured above)— made their network television debut on the Late Show With David Letterman earlier this summer and will return to the small screen on September 10th as guests on Conan. They’ve also been featured on the BBC’s Later… With Jools Holland and American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”
On the strength of his critically-acclaimed Metamodern Sounds in Country Music album, Simpson has scored a nomination for Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2014 Americana Honors & Awards set for next month in Nashville. He’s also a predicted dark horse contender for the Country Music Association’s New Artist of the Year honor. Still, the Kentucky native is not keen on labeling himself one genre or another.
“I don’t know where I fit in,” he told Rolling Stone Country earlier this summer, “but I do know that when I figure it out, it ain’t going to be because somebody else did it for me…. I just try to do what I believe in and, more importantly, wake up in 20 or 30 years and still feel proud.”
