Hear Chvrches’ Soaring Song ‘Warning Call’
Glaswegian synth-pop band Chvrches have released their soaring “Warning Call.” The original song serves as the video soundtrack for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
The video game involves first person action and focuses on main character “Faith’s origin story as she fights for freedom within the city of glass,” as described in the YouTube post.
Trio frontwoman Lauren Mayberry channels the game heroine’s Faith, who judging from the lyrics is one who asserts her independence. “I need it / So I hold on to every mistake that I made alone / And I don’t lie when I say that we will never return to closing doors / Sleep tight in a new light through another warning call / Looked out on the cold ground / and we try to break the fall,” she sings. Later, “It’s a memory,” is repeated.
The lyrics seem an ideal fit with the character of Faith, who is described as “a daring free runner.” The game will reportedly take players through a cityscape complete with rooftops and “dark and gritty tunnels.”
As Pitchfork notes, the game will be released in North America on June 7th and in Europe on June 9th and it will be available for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
The song is the band’s first new material since 2015’s Every Open Eye.
