Jake Owen on Cathartic Powers of New Album: The Ram Report
Jake Owen hopes his fifth studio album, American Love, provides the kind of escapism for fans that it did for him while crafting it. Whether it’s a ballad that reflects tough times in his personal life or one of his signature, summery beach songs, the album offers relatable tunes from start to finish.
“What’s the purpose of this gift if you don’t use it to make people smile,” Owen tells us. “Music is healing, whether it’s sad songs or happy songs — just depending on where you are in life and what you need to hear at that point. This album has a lot of different aspects of my life thread throughout it. I think people will kinda get a good idea of where I am in life, where I’m going and where I’ve been.”
The album’s first single, “American Country Love Song” was love at first listen for Owen, who knew immediately that he wanted to cut it. Written by Ross Copperman (also one of the album’s producers), Ashley Gorley and Jaren Johnston, the uptempo tune paints a cinematic picture of a cross-country romance. Owen took his own road trip to bring the single’s lyrics to life in its accompanying, lively video.
Jake Owen’s American Love LP hits stores July 29th.
