Man Dies After Alleged Altercation at Hank Williams Jr. Show
A concertgoer at a Sunday night Hank Williams Jr. concert in Michigan died after a tragic fall in the concourse of the DTE Energy Music Theatre about an hour northwest of Detroit. The fall occurred after the victim, 55-year-old Robert Kobe, was apparently pushed by a 15-year-old family friend, according to the Detroit Free Press. Kobe struck his head on the pavement and was rushed to a local hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
According to comments from the victim’s son, the incident appears to have been a tragic accident. The police investigation, however, is still ongoing. The performance by Williams, famous for such songs as “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” and “A Country Boy Can Survive,” went on as planned.
Kobe’s death is just the latest incident to mar country concerts this summer. In July, an 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl on the lawn of the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, during a performance by Keith Urban. More than 50 other arrests were reported at the concert, and 46 fans required medical treatment for alcohol-related illnesses. Also in July, a 22-year-old fan was found dead in a nearby landfill after vanishing during a Jason Aldean concert in Cleveland; while a woman at a Brad Paisley concert in San Diego alleged discrimination over her breastfeeding of her child after she was asked to leave the pit area in front of the stage. A June stadium concert by Luke Bryan at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh resulted in more than 150 emergency calls.
